The immortal bicycle tube

The project is based on the theme of upcycling and the attempt to find interesting solutions for the living space of “Plattenbau“, the pre-fabricated tower block architecture style that dominates East Berlin.

The outcome was two different surfaces, conceived as a curtain or a space divider. The material for both surfaces are old bicycle inner tubes, sewn and filled with textile fibers to stabilize the tubes and to give them a three-dimensional form. Links from a bicycle chain were also applied to join modules as well being used to hang the construction.
